By presenting an historic artist such as Cadere for the first time, the Espace Valettois is clearly assuming a different dimension. It is also becoming a stage in the eight itineraries which make up the Ulysses project, which is part of the Marseille-Provence 2013 odyssey: an itinerary in the Var département which will include three venues at Saint-Cyr, Toulon and La Valette. The exhibition brings together rare, and in some cases hitherto unseen, works, foreshadowing the major retrospective to be held at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw in 2014. André Cadere would probably not have turned his back on such a journey, and he would probably have relished this unusual circuit, he who was involved in the art of the offbeat, like his Lettrist friends… We hope that this project will help everyone to appreciate André Cadere’s particular oeuvre, and enhance the lives of those who follow in his footsteps.
