Semaine 40.14

Invented to share common measurements, metric systems are also a good way of standardizing our experiences. Indeed, whereas it is important to be sure that we are talking about the same thing when we use a liter of milk in a recipe or when we buy a meter of material, there are areas in which this homogenization is not necessarily welcome. Even worse, there is nothing exciting about considering that the quality of a moment can be described in common terms. Since the feat of catching a very large fish with almost no wait at all is most certainly greater if it is not defined in centimeters or in minutes. This is particularly true if we want to tell a thrilling story. And it is even more important in as much as the context itself can increase the quality of the achievement. If, for example, nothing’s biting, or if someone we want to impress is present, the fish will be even bigger and the catch even quicker.
