Hors Champs proposes a circuit at the heart of Sylvie Bonnot’s oeuvre, an artist for whom the landscape is an ongoing source of creation. Between the artist’s images and the onlooker, there is a distance that is hard to quantify, from faraway to very close; the magnetism of the image exercises us. A “head-on” situation is at work between the landscape and the exploratory gaze. With no clue as to scale, the image misleads us, the better to invite us to grasp it. The subject and the materiality of Sylvie Bonnot’s images evoke the 19th century explorerpoet and naturalist: archaeologist, ethnologist, biologist, he refers as much to the mineral as to the vegetable and animal world..
