Semaine Ulysses no.02

Barthélémy Toguo
Dérive(s)
Chapelle Sainte Anne, Arles
et le Frac Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur

Ulysses is a wonderful critical corpus, which deals with the effects of images, their living potential, and their active, performative dimension, like an act of showing, in the fact of saying, remembering, speaking out against, and criticizing, thus making a rich contribution to the issue of the function and uses of imagery. The exhibition of Barthélémy Toguo’s work, on view in Arles, at the Chapelle Saint-Anne, explores the themes of exile and immigration. The artist gives form to and portrays the uncertain passage between two worlds–the ordeal of the frontier between sub-Saharan Africa and the West–, and makes us aware of the outrages undergone by exiled peoples.
