Semaine 40.16

Ubiquité
Reconnaissance des formes
Laboratoire Prospectives de l’image,
École nationale supérieure de la photographie

Within the framework of the event Digital October 2016, following a proposal by
Jean-Louis Boissier, the laboratory Prospectives de l’image of the École nationale supérieure de la photographie (National Superior School of Photography) is launching the operation Ubiquité. Thanks to the designer Matthieu Cherubini, the laboratory, which is devoted to research into the digital dimension of new imagery practices, has developed a new smartphone application of shape recognition for this event. Thus, the telephone’s camera, when used with this application, is guided by the search for specific signs which depend on the scenario chosen by the artist: from the readability of vegetal codes for Jean-Louis Boissier, the perimeter of towns at war for Caroline Bernard, formal archetypes for Fanny Terno or geometric figures collected in the urban space for Barnabé Moinard. Other possibilities appear during different workshops. This publication outlines the whole research process from ubiquity to the diversity of the artistic experiments carried out.
