Alexandre Atenza, Balbutiements
Le Majorat – arts visuels, Villeneuve-Tolosane

For its third season of artists’ residencies the Majorat is playing host to Alexandre Atenza. Since graduating from the Toulouse School of Fine Arts in 2012, he has been developing an installation praxis comparing forms and codes borrowed from art history and popular culture. It is by discovering the prehistoric heritage of the commune that he steers his research towards a “pre-historicization” of his visual output. The artist builds an exhibition where he questions a certain immanence of the need for humankind to construct and invent its own history. By re-drawing the remains of the prehistoric heritage of Villeneuve-Tolosane, or perhaps by predicting the archaeological traces of the future, Alexandre Atenza introduces a uchrony where the past, present and future of Villeneuve-Tolosane are concertina’d within an at once contextual and fictional art project.
