Claire Tabouret, Le regard, dedans dehors

This third exhibition of the 2013-2014 season devoted to Claire Tabouret’s work is part of one of the four themes—namely “Identity/Otherness”—on which the Chapelle
de la Visitation programme is based. The exhibition offers an opportunity to present the work of a young 32-yearold artist with a whole production of child and teenage figures, painted and sculpted, taken from images of the past coming both from family photographic archives and anonymous documents. Be they represented in groups or individually, they are often disguised, and even masked, posing head-on in a biting face-to-face encounter with the onlooker, unless, that is, they actually turn their gaze on
themselves. This production is echoed by a selection of self-portraits which stem from a daily exercise and underscore the decidedly incarnate dimension of the artist’s approach.
