Thonon-les-Bains

As the third show in the 2012-2013 season, the exhibition And China Awoke… Xiao Fan, Wang Guangyi, Zhou Jun, Wang Keping, Yan Pei Ming, Yang Yongliang, Qiu Zhijie fits into the framework of one of the four themes– here, namely, “Nomadism/Globalism”– on which the programme of the Chapelle de la Visitiation at Thononles- Bains is based. This show offers people a chance to encounter the work of seven artists who are part of one of the most dynamic foreign art scenes going. It is a truism to say as much, but since the death of Mao Tse-Tung, China has experienced considerable growth, and is rated by some as incarnating the future of the world. Now high up among the planet’s leading countries, it has undergone not only an economic but also a cultural boom, as never before. In just a twentyyear span, it has imposed itself on the international scene as a quintessential partner, both in the market place and in the art world.
